The quality of mains electricity is declining, and this is directly affecting the performance of audio systems. The proliferation of switch-mode power supplies, energy-saving bulbs, and Ethernet infrastructure all contribute to this problem. The Musical Fidelity X-Power is a single-inlet, single-outlet power conditioner built in the iconic X-profile chassis, combining three critical protection elements in one elegant unit: surge and overvoltage protection, an EMI/RFI filter, and a DC blocker — a combination that is genuinely rare at any price point.

Surge & Overvoltage Protection

The X-Power employs a multi-stage design with two surge and overvoltage protection stages — one at the input and one at the output — guarding your equipment against damage from lightning strikes, power grid fluctuations, and sudden changes in electrical load.

EMI/RFI Filter

A bespoke EMI filter consisting of two common-mode chokes with common-mode and differential mode capacitors delivers exceptional high-frequency noise rejection. Musical Fidelity's filter achieves close to −60dB attenuation at 100kHz, better than −70dB from 600kHz, and more than −80dB at 1MHz — figures that are unique in this class of product.

DC Blocker

Even small amounts of DC voltage can saturate a power transformer core, causing audible mechanical vibrations and reduced efficiency. The X-Power's meticulously designed network of diodes and electrolytic capacitors effectively blocks DC components while allowing AC to pass freely — an essential safeguard for sensitive audio components.

Construction

The main chassis is a one-piece aluminium extrusion for optimal EMI shielding, finished with a beautifully brushed aluminium front panel. A high-quality IEC C14 input socket and Schuko output socket (with US, UK, and AUS socket options available) sit on the rear panel.
