World's first speaker to use meta material that absorbs frequencies above 600Hz for more detailed and polished sound.

KEF LS50 Meta is a high precision, engaging loudspeaker built on groundbreaking acoustic technology. Designed around the 12th Generation Uni-Q driver array with Metamaterial Absorption Technology, the solid compact loudspeaker delivers detailed sound anywhere in the room.

Revolutionary sound absorption with MAT

Developed in partnership with Acoustic Metamaterials Group, Metamaterial Absorption Technology (MAT) is a breakthrough in loudspeaker design and demonstrates KEF’s commitment to developing new technologies for an improved listening experience. Metamaterials are specially developed to use existing materials so that they exhibit new desirable properties.

MAT is a complex maze-like structure, where each of the channels efficiently absorbs a specific frequency. These channels act as an acoustic black hole, absorbing 99% of the unwanted sound that comes from the rear of the tweeter eliminating resulting distortion and producing a purer, more natural acoustic performance.

12th Gen Uni-Q

The tweeter sits at the heart of the12th generation Uni-Q with MAT driver array. The Uni-Q point source configuration delivers a more detailed, precise, and integrated 3D sound image that is evenly dispersed so you can experience the ‘sweet spot’ wherever you are in the room.

Using simulation, analysis tools and decades of accumulated knowledge, KEF engineers have developed a new iteration of this signature driver array with a new cone neck decoupler and motor system shaped to reduce HF distortion in the midrange. The result is lower coloration, less distortion, and a more transparent sound. LS50 Meta surpasses the expectation of a bookshelf speaker this size to deliver deep, articulate bass in room-filling sound.

Enhancement from LS50 lineage

Using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), the flare and profile of the flexible off-set port is calculated to delay turbulence and the flexible port walls prevent resonances from colouring the midrange for improved clarity with exceptional depth and detail. LS50 Meta’s extremely rigid cabinet is optimised for best performance with smooth curved surfaces that help disperse sound across the baffle with no interference.

The baffle is engineered from an Dough Moulding Compound (DMC). Inside the cabinet, cross bracing and Constrained Layer Damping (CLD) combine to negate internal vibrations so the LS50 Meta produces the lowest coloration of any speaker in its class.

Attention to every detail

LS50 Meta takes its distinctive aesthetic from the original LS50 using a low-diffraction curved baffle precision modelled around the Uni-Q driver. The curved front is subtly mirrored by the rear panel while speaker terminals are recessed and softened visually. On the underside, each corner has a threaded inset allowing the speaker to lock onto the top of the KEF S2 floorstand.

The LS50 Meta speakers utilise innovative, ground-breaking technology to provide an immersive and realistic sound from a compact, stylish design that guarantees to bring new vistas of enjoyment in your life.

KEF LS50 Legacy

Since 1961, KEF‘s mission has been to preserve the integrity of original sound by providing a revealing listening experience that is as true to the original recording as is possible within the confines of a room. The iconic LS50 personified this approach taking its cues from the classic LS3/5A before quickly becoming a modern icon.

KEF's engineers have upheld this philosophy and sought out new technological breakthroughs leading to the KEF LS50 Meta speakers. Instantly recognizable as the successor of the LS50, LS50 Meta stems from the same desire for continual development and is fittingly the first model to employ Metamaterial Absorption Technology.
