Refined Design, Elevated Performance
Following more than five successful years of the DIAMOND 12 Series, Wharfedale has introduced the DIAMOND 12i lineup—a modernised, enhanced version featuring upgraded aesthetics and subtle but meaningful acoustic refinements. These updates help the 12.3i deliver improved clarity, tighter bass, and more consistent real-world performance while maintaining the series’ class-leading neutrality.
Luxurious New Finishes
The Diamond range has always punched above its weight in build quality, and the 12i series raises the bar. The updated finishes bring a more modern, premium aesthetic, allowing the speakers to look as refined as they sound.
Incremental Acoustic Enhancements
Wharfedale’s engineering team revisited the port geometry and internal damping, leading to clearer, more controlled low frequencies—particularly in domestic spaces where room placement typically complicates bass performance.
This extensive development process, led by Director of Acoustic Design Peter Comeau and senior engineers Dan Bailey Ornellas and Oliver Davies, involved:
- Laser interferometry analysis
- Anechoic and in-room measurement sessions
- Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modelling
- Hundreds of hours of critical listening
The result is more articulate bass, smoother transitions between frequency bands, and improved spatial consistency regardless of room layout.
Klarity™ Cone Technology
The DIAMOND 12.3i uses Wharfedale’s Klarity™ cone material—a carefully engineered polypropylene/mica blend that strikes the ideal balance of stiffness, low mass, and internal damping. This creates a driver that is fast, responsive, and free from unwanted resonances.
Additional engineering touches include:
- Low-damping surrounds for higher efficiency and improved dynamics
- Ribbed cone profiling for smoother frequency behaviour
- Advanced modelling to minimise breakup and distortion
Advanced Magnet System
Each mid/bass driver employs an aluminium compensation ring to stabilise inductance as the coil moves—reducing distortion and ensuring cleaner, more accurate reproduction. The epoxy/glass fibre bobbin offers superior power handling and thermal stability compared to typical materials at this level.
25mm Textile Dome Tweeter
The 1" woven polyester dome features a high-loss damping treatment for extended, natural treble. Wharfedale’s flat-profile front plate and minimal waveguide approach help deliver excellent dispersion and off-axis consistency.
High-Quality Linkwitz–Riley Crossover
True to the DIAMOND 12 philosophy, the 12.3i employs a sophisticated crossover network with air-core inductors—a rarity in this price category. These components ensure smooth integration between drivers and minimal phase distortion.
Low-Resonance Multi-Layer Cabinet
The 12.3i cabinet uses a multi-layer sandwich design to reduce resonance. Internally, computer-modelled spot bracing controls vibration without transferring it across surfaces, resulting in the tight, authoritative sound that defines the Diamond series.
Preserving the Soul of the DIAMOND Series
The Wharfedale DIAMOND 12.3i looks, feels, and performs like a thoroughly refreshed loudspeaker—but its sonic identity remains true to the beloved DIAMOND 12 signature: neutral, expressive, and highly engaging.
